A Thank You to Facebook

This isn’t the post I intended to write. I started this post as “A Plea to Facebook” on how the site could make better use of fan pages.

But before I had the time to write, Facebook announced and rolled out the new fan page changes.

So instead, here’s what I love about the new fan pages.

  • News Feeds for pages.

  • The ability to like or comment as your page on other pages.

  • The ability to like other pages as your fan page.

Those three improvements on how fan pages can act have been a big improvement. However, there are a couple of issues that I think would be welcomed if they were rolled out.

  1. Send messages as a fan page to individual Facebook profiles. (I would use this mainly for contests.)
  2. The ability to @ mention another page without first having to like that page. This would be a great marketing addition since users could learn about new pages just by writing status updates.

What do you think of the new Facebook fan pages? What changes or additions would you like to see?
